autism 300x199 The Liahona ProjectThe Liahona Project is an online community of Latter-day Saint families with special needs children and adults, is a place where Latter-day Saints can discuss — in unselfconsciously LDS terms — “the blessings and the stressings” of raising a special needs child. Regardless of whether special needs issues impact them personally, every member of the Church is in a ward somewhere and it is likely at least one family in that ward is impacted.

When we had moved into our ward in Arizona, I was surprised to find out that about half a dozen children had special needs, whether autism, downs syndrome or some other disorder. This had brought some comfort to me, as I have a special needs child myself. Although raising such a child has been difficult to deal with at times, it certainly helps to be involved with other parents who are going through similar circumstances.

This website, The Liahona Project, helps you to connect to others who may have similar experiences and be able to help you on your journey. It is a fairly new forum and message board, and you are welcome to join the conversation, and post comments, suggestions, feedback, and inspiration. When we all work together, the load is lighter and the burden less strenuous.
