Church’s Preparedness for Hard Economic Times

An Associated Press article that ran this past week that discussed the Church’s welfare system that takes care of the poor and needy. This system is designed to help those get caught up in hard economic times due to challenges such as lost employment.

Mormons may be among the country’s best prepared to weather the current economic hard times. Since the Great Depression, church leaders have preached a doctrine of self-reliance and selflessness, calling on members to plan for their own future while tending to the needs of others.

The doctrine of self-reliance and preparedness is not new, especially when it comes to food storage or 72-hour kits. Our prophets have counseled us to do all we can to prepare.
